Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Vs. Double Duty Review

Hello everyone! I am thrilled to share a new post with all of you today.

I wanted to compare Sally Hansen’s Double Duty polish to the Hard as Nails varnish and discuss my overall thoughts on which I prefer of the two. Let’s begin!

Double Duty

“All-in-one patented strengthening base and top coat works double time…for double protection.  As a base coat, Double Duty moisturizes and hydrates nails with Panthenol.  As a top coat, Double Duty protects with Nylon.”  – Sally Hansen

I have spent the last few months using this top and bottom coat polish and have rather mixed feelings about it’s performance. I did find it to leave a lustrous finish on the nails and reduced the amount of chipping as well as a quick dry time, but the peeling of my nails was rather alarming. The clear coat itself would easily lift around the edges and peel which I felt did not add to the overall health of my nails. I also note no additional strengthening or moisturizing from this polish. Instead of moisturizing, I would notice white patches form around the edges of the clear base contributing to a more dry look.

Hard As Nails

“An extra-strength nail hardening treatment that protects & strengthens soft, fragile nails. Nylon formula fortifies nails & helps prevent chipping, splitting & peeling; Retinol & Copper Peptide formula hydrates parched nails; Omega 3 & Soy formula helps diminish the look of ridges.” – Sally Hansen

This polish has been part of my nail routine for years and I can honestly vouch for it being an excellent clear coat that has contributed to the strength and growth of my nails.  My nails do not peel and rarely break when I use this polish which is absolutely critical for me. It provides a long lasting lustrous finish as well as protects my nails from the daily wear and tear. The application creates a smooth canvas for the nail polish to glide on making it an exceptionally lovely base coat. Another added benefit is that this polish also dries quickly.

Verdict

Both provide a glossy finish and have a quick dry time, but overall I would recommend the Hard As Nails. The strengthening and protection outweigh the qualities of the Double Duty.  I worry if the Double Duty is actually hindering the health of my nails.

If you are at your local drugstore, I would highly recommend picking up a bottle of Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails especially if you suffer from weak nails that easily break or peel.

Until next time. Take care!

Alice…xoxo
